An important modern art gallery born from the development of an institution founded in 1872 by the Baron Pasquale Revoltella s wish (1795-1869) who in his will decided to leave his palace to Trieste, his art collection and a conspicuous income that allowed to increase the patrimony year by year and in a short time to build up a considerable art collection.

Among the oldest natural history museums in Italy (1846), it owes its fame above all to the collection of important finds unique in the world. The Antonio dinosaur (Tethyshadros insularis) is the largest and most complete Italian dinosaur and the most important paleontological discovery in Europe, while the human jaw, of over 6,400 years in which a dental filling made with beeswax is visible, is the oldest example of dental care in the world.

The Miramare Castle and its Park were built by the will of the Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg who decided, around 1855, to have a residence appropriate to his rank ,built on the Trieste s outskirts, overlooking the sea and surrounded by an extensive garden.
