Important modern art gallery born from the development of an institution founded in 1872 by the will of Baron Pasquale Revoltella (1795-1869), who in his testament arranged to give the city of Trieste his palace, his art collection and a substantial income. This allowed the heritage to increase from year to year and to constitute in a short time a considerable art collection.

Among the oldest natural history museums in Italy (1846), it owes its fame above all to the collection of important finds unique in the world. One of these, the Antonio dinosaur (Tethyshadros insularis), which is the largest and most complete Italian dinosaur and the most important paleontological discovery in Europe. Another important find preserved in this museum is a human jawbone of over 6,400 years in which a dental filling made with beeswax is visible: it is the oldest example of dental care in the world.

The Miramare Castle is located on the homonymous promontory overlooking the sea. Built in the mid-nineteenth century by the will of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg, the castle is now used as a museum. You can visit the archduke's rooms with the original furnishings and the throne room. Part of the building houses the rooms where Duke Amedeo d'Aosta lived; he modified these rooms with furnishings of the time in a rationalist style and replaced the Imperial-Royal insignia with the Savoy crosses.

The eighteenth-century Villa Sartorio, refined and suggestive bourgeois residence renovated in a neoclassical key by Nicolò Pertsch in the mid-nineteenth century, was inhabited until 1946 by the Sartorio family, who then arranged the bequest to the Municipality of Trieste. The villa is still almost intact in the furnishings: the ballroom, the living rooms, the library, the dining room and the large kitchen allow you to learn about the lifestyle of the upper Trieste bourgeoisie of the 19th century. The Museum also exhibits important collections such as the collection of 254 drawings by Giambattista Tiepolo, one of the five most important in the world, purchased by Giuseppe Sartorio in 1893, and Histria, a corpus of works of art dating from the 14th to the 18th century (Paolo Veneziano, Alvise Vivarini, Vittore Carpaccio, Giambattista Tiepolo etc.) of Istrian origin, hospitalized in Friuli during World War II.

The Museum, located on the first floor of Palazzo Morpurgo in via Imbriani, consists of three sections. In the first one, dedicated to the history of Trieste, works of art and artifacts evoke the atmosphere of the city in the 19th century, at the peak of its commercial fortune. The second section consists of the collection of Socrate Stavropulos: 150 works of painting, sculpture and drawing by various Italian and European artists from antiquity to the 20th century, donated by the Trieste collector of Greek origin between 1952 and 1958. Finally, in the Textile Room there is a selection of the rich textile collection of the Civic Museums of History and Art, ranging from the silk fragments dating from the 15th to the 19th century to the ceremonial, evening and ethnographic dresses up to the sacred vestments between the 18th and the 20th century; a particular attention is dedicated to the creations of Anita Pittoni, a brilliant Trieste textile designer active in the years between the two wars.

Housed in the House of the Fighter (arch. Umberto Nordio), which stands on the area once occupied by the Austrian barracks where Guglielmo Oberdan was executed on December 20th, 1882, the museum preserves documents, photographs, uniforms, relics and paintings related to events and characters of the Risorgimento, from the riots of 1848 to the end of the First World War. Developed around a housing unit belonging to the literary and patriot Filippo Zamboni, the museum, whose central hall is decorated with frescoes by Carlo Sbisà, exhibits materials for the most part from private donations such as documents, uniforms and personal effects by Scipio Slataper, the Giani and Carlo Stuparich brothers and Nazario Sauro. Of great interest is the grandiose painting by Carlo Wostry "Trieste 30th October 1918". Attached to the museum is the Memorial, with the cell in which Oberdan was held prisoner awaiting execution and the sculptural complex executed by Attilio Selva.

Opened exactly a century after the day James Joyce arrived in Trieste with Nora Barnacle, on October 20th, 1904, the Joyce Museum is a space where the visitor can see information and materials on the almost eleven years lived by James Joyce in Trieste: from the apartments in which he lived to the places he frequented, from the family to the great literary works that he made or began here (like the first three chapters of Ulysses), up to the relationship with Svevo, the Trieste writer indicated as one of the models of the protagonist of Ulysses, Leopold Bloom. Every year, on June 16th, the Joyce Museum celebrates, as in Dublin, Bloomsday, the day on which all the action of Ulysses is set.

It collects the memoirs and works of the writer Italo Svevo survived to the destruction of his villa, bombed in 1945: the mobile bookshop with some of the volumes that belonged to him; the golden pen and the violin; the archive with the original manuscripts of his stories, essays, comedies, family photographs and the hundreds of letters received from some of the most significant writers of his time – Joyce, Montale, André Gide, Prezzolini, Comisso – as well as several hundred of those written by Svevo himself to his wife Livia Veneziani. The museum also houses a library constantly updated with editions of the writer's works – in the original language and in various translations – and the world's largest collection of Svevo critical literature. On December 19th of each year the museum celebrates the anniversary of the writer's birth with an event entitled "Happy Birthday Svevo".

Inaugurated in 2004, more than a museum, it is a curious space. It is the laboratory, the showcase of an idea: to create the Museum of Bora and Wind in Trieste. The bora, katabatic wind, is one of the most famous features of the city, and deserves to be celebrated in a special place that sooner or later will be born. This place wants to be a "museum in progress" to get acquainted with the Bora Museum Project®, in an intimate and collected dimension. It's the "small" museum.
